Why: Ty St Clair needs a kidney transplant and the Saddleback Valley is pitching in to help. Here are the details: | ||
(Excerpted from an open letter from friend and event producer, Connie Jensen) Dear friends & family, I'm writing this letter in this format because I want to tell all of you about a special event that we are involved with. We have some neighbors. Charlie & Maria St. Clair have three children, Courtney 20, Tyler 18, and Westley 11. Knowing the St.Clairs has been a blessing to our family because of the way they have touched all our hearts. Tyler St. Clair was diagnosed with a hole in his heart at two months of age and was hospitalized. At 10 months, Ty underwent open heart surgery. Though the surgery was successful, complications left Tyler mentally and physically challenged. After extensive therapies-physical, behavioral, and speech, Ty is the happiest, warmest, friendliest person you'd ever want to know. His capacity for love and compassion knows no bounds. By the time we met him he was 12 years old and had already survived several surgeries and recoveries. The obstacles that the St. Clair's have already lived through, are truly inspirational. In addition to the same everyday financial burdens we all face these days raising our families, they have experienced extra hardships this year. Recent tests showed that Tyler's kidneys are shutting down and a kidney transplant is inevitable. And, to make matters worse, Charlie was laid off from his job and will only have his medical insurance through September. This normally wouldn't be a problem if Charlie could get another job, however, after extensive testing for compatibility, Charlie proved to be the perfect matching donor! It's nearly impossible to start a new job knowing that you'll be taking a month off to recover from donating a kidney. So instead, their moving forward with the surgery with great optimism in hopes that Charlie can be well recovered in time once again to be the bread winner for his family after his recovery. Surgeries, like a kidney transplant, are extremely costly. The transplant, if successful, is estimated at $125,000.00, if the kidney is rejected, medical costs could exceed a half a million dollars. Tyler will require multiple medications for the rest of his life and costs are estimated at $500.00 - $1,500.00 per month. The reality of this is overwhelming for anyone! We have found a way to show our support but we need your help to do that. On father's day, June 18th a benefit concert has been organized to celebrate "a father's gift". The coach house in San Juan Capistrano has generously donated their concert theatre and Charlie's childhood Friend, Carl Verheyen, has volunteered to perform with his band. Carl is a former lead guitarist for the legendary band, Supertramp (one of my favorites!) he is considered to be a major contributor on the guitar scene; having been voted one of the top 10 undiscovered guitar players in the world by guitar magazine. He has also played with the Bee Gees, Little Richard, Cher, Melissa Manchester and even has the distinction of having given guitar lessons to John Fogerty. On the jazz scene he has played with David Benoit, Richard Elliott, Rick Braun, Dave Grusin, and Kilauea just to name a few. Carl was asked to participate in Eric Clapton's blues festival in Europe, this summer. Carl's new jazz cd "Atlas Overload" is due for release this August. It sounds like we are in for a real treat! We are asking you and your family, and any friends you'd like to invite, as well as their families, to come join us at the Coach House on Father's Day. This is a family event and is geared to entertain everyone, aged 1 to 100. The ticket prices are $17.50 for adults and $12.50 for kids 12 & under. All ticket proceeds go directly to " the Tyler St. Clair fund". This is our chance to celebrate fatherhood by giving the greatest gift of all… The gift of hope, the gift of love, and, most importantly, the gift of life. We look forward to hearing from you, and hopefully, celebrating with you on Father's Day. All our love, Dave, Connie, Adam and Samantha TO ORDER TICKETS, YOU CAN: CALL CONNIE AT: (949) 496-6514.
